Personal Endorsements Sarah
Here are selected comments from former supervisors. What I hope they convey is that my many years of teaching in diverse educational environments has given me some great insights into unlocking the potential of students.
I worked with Sarah Tawse for two years, during the time that she was employed as an ESL teacher at Nanjing International School. Sarah was the ESL teacher for Grade 2 while I was one of the Grade 2 Class Teachers. I also worked with her in my role as Primary Years Programme Co-ordinator.
During this time I found Sarah to be very knowledgeable about ESL learners and she was able and willing to support me and my colleagues in catering for the needs of these students. Sarah developed very positive relationships with the students and she consistently worked to provide the best learning experiences for them.
Sarah was collegial in spirit at all times. She worked to establish positive, collaborative working relationships with all members of her teaching team and she was respectful of different points of view and teaching styles.
Karen Campbell (Former Primary Years Program Co-ordinator, Nanjing International School) October 2007
“…Mrs. Tawse is an extremely competent ESL teacher combining her vast experience with creativity and willingness to employ new teaching methods. Bearing strong convictions related to education, Mrs. Tawse is able to quickly judge whether new elements in her teaching best benefit her students and adapt latest theories and practices accordingly. She often offers insightful reflections related to the practices commonly employed in the ESL classroom, thus making her expertise accessible for all the other members of the ESL team.
Mrs. Tawse reveals genuine passion for education, which supported by her knowledge and experience enables her to clearly and precisely express her opinions about the decisions made in the ESL team. Not only did she contribute considerably her ideas and opinions to the process of improving the ESL Elementary programme at NIS, but she was always willing to pinpoint and consider various points of view before any final decision was made.
Mrs. Tawse pays a lot of attention to maintaining a very high standard of teaching and she frequently attends workshops and trainings to do so. She is also willing to share newly acquired knowledge with her colleagues and she makes action plans to gradually and most effectively employ new ideas in her classroom.
I also admire Mrs. Tawse’s sensitivity to individual student’s unique needs and difficulties as well as her ability to become a friendly and gentle authority for her students. She knows well how to encourage and develop the best qualities in her students, making them feel appreciated and enthusiastic about learning.
As a person and colleague, Mrs. Tawse is especially kind and sensitive. Her patience and respect for people are unique and the way she handles stressful situations or conflicts is most impressive.
All things considered, I strongly believe that Mrs.Tawse will be a very special member of any teaching team. Without hesitation I recommend Mrs. Tawse as a dedicated educator and a person of the highest ethics.” Agata Kolesinska, (Assistant ESL Coordinator (Elementary) Nanjing International School, June 2006),
Personal Endorsements Harry
Here are some selected comments from former employers and supervisors. What I want to impress upon you is that I failed miserably as a young drama teacher and struggled for years to teach as effectively as I wanted to but the following comments suggest I may have succeeded after all.
“Harry is a dedicated and highly skilled professional. He has wide ranging expertise and an excellent capacity and willingness to learn. ….He has a superb work ethic and has consistently demonstrated his capacity to multi task and deliver to deadlines. Further Harry has demonstrated a capable approach to problem solving and a willingness to consult and engage others. I find Harry to be personable and approachable and have been most impressed with the speed with which he learned a whole new system and stepped up to perform his duties as an executive teacher.
Kerryn Oliver (Former Principal Nulunbuy High School, N.T., Australia) December 2007
“……Harry is a loyal and supportive member of our staff. He maintains good relationships with colleagues, students and parents. He is an efficient administrator, and meets deadlines in a timely fashion. A very capable organizer, Harry can be relied upon to approach complex tasks methodically and with diligence.
This teacher has taken performing arts at our school to a higher level than I had anticipated would be possible. Harry’s productions have been very popular with the entire community.
Gez Hayden (Former Director, Nanjing International School, Nanjing, China) June 2007
“…..I have been very impressed with Harry’s ability to motivate administrators, colleagues, students and assistants to ensure successful large productions.
This was done in spite of some notable difficulties, throughout which Harry remained calm and focused, encouraging cast and crew to get on with their jobs. Growth in student involvement has reflected Harry’s positive approach, with numbers trebling over the last three years to now include almost half the students.
Harry has been a trusted colleague who is able to accept and work with decisions which do not necessarily suit him. He voices concerns in a reasoned fashion and is supportive of administration and colleagues and students. Harry sets high standards of commitment and works very hard at modeling these.
….I recommend Harry to you as a person who is very capable in his field, exhibits personal moral strengths and can work collaboratively with students and staff.”
Richard Swart (Principal, Nanjing International School, Nanjing, China) June 2007
“Harry is a very knowledgeable, hardworking teacher. He has demonstrated an expertise in the Middle Years Program and his classroom practice demonstrates his understanding of the criterion referencing assessment, interdisciplinary links, and inclusion of the Areas of Interaction. Our school has a large ESL population and Harry has been able to respond to the needs of these students while maintaining high academic standards.
Harry has developed very positive relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff.
He takes primary responsibility for the secondary production each year.
He has produced two excellent performances so far during his tenure which have been enjoyed by everyone involved as well as the audience. Harry is able to bring people together in a very constructive way.”
Denise Walsh ( Now Head of School at International School of Bologna) June 2006
“Harry has shown himself to be a conscientious, high principled, highly competent, hard working, faithful teacher, who has maintained high standards and obtained good results from his students.
Harry has had the responsibility of establishing the Drama Dept. and has done so with vigour and innovation. Drama has become popular with students and the musicals organised by Harry have been a major success.”
Rees Davis ( Principal, King’s Christian College, Gold Coast, Australia ) May 1995
“ During his time here I found him to be a conscientious teacher who coordinated the Drama Faculty and played the important role of managing our Performing Arts Centre. He developed the facility and encouraged outside use on a commercial basis. He was responsible for its income/expenditure budget and many improvements made in that time.
I have found Mr. Tawse to be a dedicated, hardworking teacher who relates well to his students and gains excellent participation and achievement through to year 12.”
Neville Green (former principal Berwick Secondary College, Berwick, Australia) February 1992
“ Mr. Tawse tutored me in Technical Production (Victorian College of The Arts, Drama School) and I was impressed by his dedication to his work and also his understanding of the needs of students. When I heard he was available I immediately appointed him as tutor with the theatre department at Melbourne University (Student Union).
......I feel that his contribution and enthusiasm will be of enormous benefit to the people that he works with and to those whom he teaches”
Scott Ramsay (former Theatre Manager, Melbourne University Union, Melbourne, Australia)
